Are your birds tossing the Niger seed out of their seed mix? Your Niger won't sprout? The U.S.D.A. requires that imported Niger seed be heat treated to kill invasive weed seeds that may be present. Niger itself is not an invasive weed. But this sterilization process also destroys many enzymes and other nutrients in the heat treated Niger that make the seed less nutritious.
